Department store John Lewis' Christmas advertisements are the stuff of legend, and this year's spot has quite the pedigree: the prestigious (and quirky) Michel Gondry constructing a heartstring-tugging (and quirky) tale of a kid and his unusual friend, set to The Beatles' lilting "Golden Slumbers," performed by Elbow. As noted here, the ending is a bit less euphoric than their usual offerings, which makes it feel less "Christmas-y," overall. But it's still a wonderful bit of work, and the shout-out to Pixar's similarly-themed feature was a nice little bonus.
