A Marian hymn seems appropriate for today, and this one -- "O thou joy of all the sorrowful," from Vasily Titov -- really fascinates me. Parts of it sound so very "17th Century Choral" to me, and parts of it sound so incredibly Russian. (And then there are bits that really remind me of Ennio Morricone's work on The Mission, especially his "Ave Maria Guarani.")
I'm not quite sure of the lyrics, to be honest. Titov isn't quite a household name. So here's the playlist, instead. Peace!
