Gosh, I love pretty much everything about this guy.
"I'm not in it to build bows. I'm in it to enjoy building bows."
Jack Cramer, 77, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, was never told how to build bows. Yet after 30 years of doing so, he is making some of the most beautiful and performant bows around, sought after by top shooters who appreciate their engineering and beauty.
Jack Cramer, 77, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, was never told how to build and shoot with bows, yet after 30 years of doing so, he is making some of the most beautiful and high performance bows sought after by top shooters who appreciate the engineering and the beauty of his bows.
This film gives a glimpse of a passionate, dedicated man for his craft who nonetheless keeps a perspective with what life throws at him and knows what is truly important.
Mark Marshall of Gold Canyon, (Jack’s neighbor) Arizona, 50 years old, an accomplished pistol and rifle shooter as well as a passionate hunter, was introduced to bow making and shooting by Jack. Under Jack’s supervision, Mark built his own hunting bow. Shortly after he went out hunting with his bow and one arrow and got a deer. He will never forget that day. His approach to hunting has changed forever in a way only other bow hunters understand it.
The symbiotic relationship existing between Jack and Mark is remarkable and pure. Mark has set his goal on becoming a master bow maker and Jack draws some of his lost strength from Mark’s boundless energy.
The Crew
Peykan Beyrami, kindly agreed to fly his drone for us for the archery shoot. Having previously lost our own drone in the water on another project, Peykan was a life saver. His skills at operating the drone under Brice’s and Ivan’s firm directorial demands has delivered the dramatic shots needed.
Steve Gay, our behind the scenes photographer has captured the activities while on production of the film. Thanks to Steve’s unique approach to photography, we will enjoy the memories for a long time. His is an accomplished photographer.
Gary Parton is Jack’s friend and neighbor who himself built a bow under Jack’s supervision. Gary was on set whenever he could to lend a hand with everything that needed a hand. While at first look lending a hand does not seem a lot, we think otherwise. Gary’s help allowed the filmmakers to concentrate more on the creative process and making a better film. As such Gary was part of the crew and his name belong in the film credits.
Special Thanks to
Tim Walters for loaning his compound bow for the film for as long as it took.
The Filmmakers
Brice LeCarre a 54 years old French-born US citizen living in Gilbert Arizona, has always had an interest in ordinary people doing extraordinary things away form the limelight. Primarily more comfortable with a camera in his hands than directing, this film is the validation needed to affirm his shooting skills and his burgeoning directing ability.
Ivan Nevares a 62 years old Porto Rican born, living in Gilbert Arizona, has always been passionate about photography. With the popularization of video technology, it was a natural sidestep for him to plunge into the video making world.
This film confirms his skill in delivering beautiful photography. Ivan is capable of designing shots following the director’s vision and yet delivering more than asked for.
The two filmmakers styles blended in this film would definitely look different had any of them not being part of the project.
