These Videos Of Seiji Ozawa Rehearsing With The Young Members Of The Seiji Ozawa International Academy Will Give You All Of The Feels

My gosh, I love this clip. It comes from a documentary called Seiji Ozawa, The Living Spirit of Music, which was produced in collaboration with the Louis Vuitton Foundation. And it's yet another example of a truth that I've come to appreciate more and more as the years have gone by: great conductors are great because of the work they do in their rehearsals, not because of what they do in their performances.

Also, this (which is a performance of the piece they're rehearsing in the clip above).

And this (which is from the same general session, methinks).

Seiji Ozawa lead a masterclass at the Fondation Louis Vuitton from June 30th to July 3rd 2015. This video contains footage of the public rehearsals and the final showcase, as well as a short interview with Seiji Ozawa.

And here's the whole thing, courtesy of the Seiji Ozawa International Academy folks. I'm not sure how long that embed will last, but I'll take what I can get. Lovely, lovely stuff.
