I hear that strange mixture of cinematic and traditionally-sacred sounds that crops up in the work of other contemporary composers (such as Ola Gjeilo). Really fascinating stuff, to me, because they seem so much more ...democratic in their influences.

I especially love how jagged the original version of the melody is when we meet it for the first time in the opening solo, and how wonderfully it is harmonized thereafter.

The groanings of death have encircled me
the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.

Your holy city has become a wilderness.
Zion has become a wilderness,
Jerusalem has been made desolate.

"The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him."
The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.

"The wise thief didst Thou make worthy of Paradise in a single moment, O Lord. By the wood of Thy Cross, illumine me also and save me!"

"God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
